33 weeks, 3 days

I'm heeeree... we made it!

Travel was awesome, very smooth, I was comfortable and all was good. EXCEPT on the final approach to my city, we had very bad turbulence and I got sick. Throwing up like a dog, sweating it was bad. But after we landed I was good to go.

So yesterday was my first doctor appointment here. I saw the Nurse Practioner, who i love, she was awesome! I will see the doctor on my next visit which will be on the 27th. Superbaby's heartbeat was great, 150's and physical exam for me turned out good too. When she measured my tummy, top of uterus down it was measuring at exactly 33 weeks. No ultrasound this time. I had to laugh and tell her how spoiled I was in Cairo, every visit if I wanted, which I did, I got an ultrasound, she laughed! So they did some labs, urine and a vag culture, so hopefully those will all come back ok. Its an automated system that will call me and let me know in a few days I'd guess.

I also mentioned to her how so many people have told me to have a scheduled c-section.... she said oh no. If I am able to deliver vaginally and all is ok that is what they prefer to do. I asked her about incision before vaginally delivery, she said they believe that a natural tear heals better and faster, huh? I thought it was the opposite! She said no and they haven't done Episiotomy's for awhile, is this right? So she needs to see some records from a surgery I had back in 2000, they took a firbroid from my uterus. She needs to see where teh incision was and scar tissue, this could MAYBE impact my delivering vaginally, but she said she would have to see the report first. I will bring that with me next appountment.

Started iron again last night, no problems. The supplement I got in Cairo made me nausious as I wrote before. So this one seems to be ok. I took it with orange juice, the NP's advice and seemed fine. I also added a calcium and Omega 3 supplement with DHA and other good stuff too.

Touring the birthing center tomorrow, and going to meet a potential Pediatrician for Superbaby. Its all becoming so much more real now and getting so close.

Anyway just wanted to say hey and let you know all is good so far. Miss you guys and will be updating regularly.

  2. It must be a bit of a relief to be on the home stretch! And it sounds like your NP is pretty down-to-earth. The things she's said are pretty much the same things I've heard.

Hope these last few weeks are easy and pleasant!

  3. The Doc that delivered me (not my doc, but the one on call that weekend) said he would only cut if I was going to rip...but then things got crazy and he was pulling her out and I ended up ripping... I have nothing to compare it to. It wasn't fun after wards but they gave me numbing foam and it really wasn't THAT bad. My ab muscles were more sore from pushing than the tear. They also gave me some light pain killers to take home. So, no worries. Either way they will stitch you up and send you on your way. As long as you and baby are good - it is all good.

  4. Congratulations with 33 weeks and arriving safely. Regaring the "tear" here they have also stopped incisions as natural tears heal faster. I´m so grateful that I got to have a vaginal birth, the tears are healed long ago and no scars (that I know of yet at least) that bother me like a scar from a c-section.

  8. So glad to hear you made it home ok and that the trip went well too. That must have been a relief.
I heard and done research on tearing naturally versus episiotomies and it's true natural tears heal easier than incisions, plus with incisions they might cut more than needed whether if your tear you will tear just the amount needed. Anyway, it sounds like you are in a great place and well looked after!

    Enjoy being home!

  9. I am so happy you reached home safely...the hiccups at the end and all, but still you are well.

I hope that your doc is sweet too...and that Superbaby keeps doing good.

I would prefer a vaginal birth over C-Section but I won't insist on the former if the situation demands the C-Section.

    Be good.

  11. Woo hoo for safe travels (the pukies not included)! I'm glad you're happy with your care providers and that all is well with Superbaby!

Is it just me or does time seem to speed up when you get into the 3rd trimester?

  12. Ripping naturally does heal faster. Also women vary on how much they rip. If the perineum (sp?) is massaged correctly you probably won't rip that badly. All 3 times I was massaged well and with my first I needed one stitch, 2nd child I needed 3, and last baby I needed NONE! Now that episiotomies are not as usual, most docs do learn the art of massaging so that it won't rip from end to end like it used to happen 20 years ago.

If you do get to have the sweet baby vaginally, you will love it! As gross as it sounds, it really feels like the best dump you have ever taken :)

  13. Massage with oil is supposed to prevent it quite a bit. Can't wait to hear about the tour!

  15. Eeeee!!! 33 weeks, you're so close!

And yes, I've heard that a tear heals faster than a cut, they say that a straight line has no purchase on another straight line, but a jagged edge can adhere to another jagged edge a lot easier. Does that make sense?

Anyway, congrats on 33 weeks and the flight and everything!

  16. Welcome back!!!Well this is all very helpful information for me too. I also had a myomectomy which i just wrote about on my blog, and it was last year. It was transvaginal - so no external incision, but I have had such a hard time trying to get the docs to tell me if it's safe to labor or not. Sounds like you are in capable hands! Are you west, central or east? just curious!
We are so close together in our timing! wowsers! Scary!! but exciting too!

  17. YAY! So glad you made it safe and sound! You're SO close, can you believe it?!

As far as tearing vs cutting? My doctor cut me with Nae and I have a big scar. I was able to tear with Zilla and I'd rather have it that way. It healed better, but also Zilla was MUCH smaller then Nae. Either way, it really isn't that bad, tearing or cutting.
    *HUGS*

  20. I'm an American who delivered in Alexandria, and Egypt is really old-school Obstetrics. My doctor wanted to section me and she wanted to cut me, but I'm so glad I insisted on a vaginal birth and her allowing me to tear naturally if it came to that. Recovery was a breeze!!! Alhamdulillah. Best wishes to you and superbaby!
