Isn't a lab a lab?

All labs are not alike... apparently not here in Cairo anyway.

So I go to a lab here where we live earlier, the test is a weak positive. Um, what does that mean?

She showed me the lines, one dark, one faint (she gave that thing above to take home, gee thanks). I thought these types of tests were used at home, not in labs? She said if she did the numbers (quantitative test) they would be low, that I should I come back in a week... yeah right lady, like I am waiting another week.

So I called Dr. K he told me to go to a specific lab in Cairo, latest technology and equipment and test again. Getting a quantitative (beta) test as well. We will do that tomorrow.

Dr. K also told me that I am pregnant. I told him I sure hope you are right man. He talked to Super S too, he's like a friend actually very very good man.

So I guess I will cautiously say I am maybe pregnant?

LOL, nothing here is ever easy. I guess I should not be surprised that I have to go through this just to see if I am indeed pregnant, I should be used to the ways of the Cairenes by now. ( I will never be used to some of them actually, i love it here but some things are insane sometimes) What a great story we will be able to tell our kid(s) about getting to know if they were even "there" huh?

Until tomorrow..... xoxoxoxoxox

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!

That is weird, their 'weak positive' thing. I cna't believe an actual lab would give a pee test, so weird.

Wishing you growing beta vibes for tomorrow. I'm so happy for you!

(My beta is tomorrow and I'm terrified!)

  2. The test was a blood test. But the test, as you see it, it looks like the type of test (urine) you would take at home. I gave blood only, not urine. Anyway will see whats up for real tomorrow...

  3. That looks very similar to my pee test I took at home. Mine was more faint than that and my beta came back at 210.

I'm super excited for you and got my fingers crossed for a nice high number!!

  4. I'm SO EXCITED!! Can't wait to hear an actual beta number. I've never heard of anyone using a test like that at a fertility clinic.? Either way, there are two lines...two lines mean pregnant!! :)

    ((hugs))

  5. congratulations, that looks way darker than my first positive HPT, ohh hang on... that was a blood test? I can't wait to hear what your beta number is.

  6. Waiting with you. But that is way more dark than any "faint" positives I have seen, mine included.

    Until then, grats!

    Congrats

  8. Everything I've read online says the qualitative blood test is just a "yes" or "no." And yours is a "yes." And, other than detecting HCG a little earlier than a urine test, they are comparable. So, this is a great start..and I can't wait until the actual beta tomorrow!

Till your Beta, pls take care and take it easy...

Will be looking forward to your next entry to find out with you what your Beta is...

  15. Yahoooo! Gotta start somewhere.
A weak positive on a pregnancy test is a positive in my book.

  18. Yay! Sounds like good news to me. I never had a beta because I was traveling when I got my bfp, so I say go with the positive, and I hope you get more reassurance in the morning.

  19. Yay. I hope all the good news continues. Also, I liked the story about your cat. I can't get mine to wear a collar. She just lays down paralyzed and thinks she can't move. All the best.

  21. Um, yay!!!!

Yes, a quantitative beta would be low now, but then it's supposed to keep getting bigger while we obsessively plot it on a chart.

Fingers crossed until tomorrow for you.

    Hooray!

  22. Honey, that doesn't look like a weak positive to me! Congratulations!!!!!

  23. ::squeal::

Yay! My first test was WAY more faint than that and I was pregnant with twins. Not that that made a difference or anything...the point is You are SO pregnant!! Congrats, Mama!!

  24. Ooooh, sure seems like a positive to me, even if I have to admit I've never seen a blood test that looks like a pee stick. Hope tomorrow's test confirms the good news, and hoping for a nice strong number on the beta.

  25. You are pregnant...that other line is unmistakable!!!

And the nurse asked you to come for the beta next week? I thought the beta was always more conclusive than the HPTs...Good Luck!

And I believe you are are pregnant. Maybe your father's wish is coming true too.
