Today is the day i get my i.po.d! I know I'm such a LOSER but i am soooo excited!
Our friends arrive Cairo atfter Noon, and I can't wait to get my i.po.d, i mean see them.
For those who don't follow my blog, its along story but you can scroll down and read about my crazy i.po.d fiasco.
So i may be asking questions about loading stuff and anything that comes up as I am learning it. Oblige me ok. I know I am so far behind, and am usually technologically up to date, but i let getting one slip too far away.
i.tun.es is loaded and ready.
Oh and can I say my a.s.s. still hurts from all the progesterone injections. I mean its its been over a month now since I stopped. Is this normal? It doesn't constantly hurt, rather I can feel "something" like when I go up and down the stairs. So like when I have movement I guess you'd say, hard to explain... anyway another great perk of being infertile, LOVE IT!

What better a Show and Tell than pics and info about an exotic place. An very cool place that is MY FAVORITE place in all the world.
When you arrive in Dahab, you feel a mix of old and new, like most of Egypt really. On the one hand you have people living in very poor conditons and on the other hand you have 5 star hotels and all the comforts of home available if you want them.
You will not find any McDonalds or other franchises there. They tried and the locals fought it. I say good for them, It wouldn't be Dahab if you saw a western style chain there really. And besides they are everywhere else in Egypt.
The first time I went to Dahab was in 1998. It was like a paradise for me. Ever since then we used to come once a year while we were living in the USA and have been going back every few months now that we live in Egypt. I never dreamed I would live just 6 hours away from my favorite place in all the world, but i do and it makes me so happy.
So, i recommend EVERYONE visit Dahab once in their lifetime. You will come a guest but definitley leave as a friend of Dahab, you'll LOVE IT! If you plan to visit to Egypt, let me know I can recommend lots of good places to visit and things the average tourist wouldn't experience on a guided tour.
Be sure to check out what everyone is showing and telling this week.
It's been a long time since I posted a recipe and since my life is so exciting now, gee, what a perfect time to post recipes. I may just torture you all and post recipes every Friday, what do you think? We'll see.
But before I do, I wanted to tell you some exciting news....I'm pregnant! Just kidding, i so wish I was though.
The REAL exciting news is Kymberli over at I'm A Smart One has a really good cook for a husband! He will start Frank's Friday Fixin's on her blog. So each Friday he will post some of his yummy creations, be sure to check them out.
Okay now for a few of my summer recipes....
Cilantro Cream Sauce (Tastes Like Guacamole)
This sauce is AMAZING! Not only is great as a sauce over chicken or enchiladas, its great as a dip for chips too! Amazingly to me it tastes like guacamole even though there is no avocado. I put some serving suggestions at end of recipe that i think would be great too. You have to try it and know that served hot or cold it will be a great hit. Enjoy!
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
2 cups fresh cilantro leaves (1 big bunch -remove the leaves from stems)
1/2 teaspoon lime peel (zest grated from one small lime would do)
1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced (more if u like)
1/2 teaspoon cumin
salt & pepper to taste
1. Combine all ingredients in blender and blend unitl smooth.
2. Add more salt & pepper to season to your liking.
3. If you let sit in refrigerator it will firm up a bit.
4. If you will serve warm, stir in a spoon of fresh cream & just pop in microwave for a few seconds before serving.
- Spoon a bit under skin of chicken breast and add some cheese before baking. Then drizzle baked chicken with more of this sauce.
- Drizzle over any style enchiladas.
- Serve as dip next to salsa for chips.
- Leftover sauce makes an amazing salad dressing; add some fresh cracked pepper to top of salad, tastes like a mexican salad.
- Add to your 7 layered bean dip.
- Mix in some cheese, green onions and salsa for a zesty dip.
Summertime Melon Smoothie
This is amazing! I made it the other night and wow it was a HIT! I didnt measure anything, so I hope my approximate measurements work for you. You can't really mess this one up though, it'll come out great! Add or descrease yougurt and/or milk depending on creamy you want it. Enjoy with guests outside on a warm summer night. Would also be great for a BBQ!!!
2 small honeydew melon (seeded and chopped)
1 cup yogurt
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons sugar
ice cubes (bunch of them)
Optional: few scoops of vanilla ice cream or even melon sorbet ( i didn't use but bet would be even better if you do)
1. Put all ingredients into blender mix.
2. Blend less time for thicker fruitier smoothie.
3. Blend longer and faster for a smoother smoothie.
4. (You may add some cold water if too thick, and give it a blend).
5. Garnish glass by slicing half way through a chunk or thick slice of melon, and stick on glass rim.

UPDATE: OUR FRIENDS IN NY BOUGHT IPOD TODAY AT APPLE STORE, WOO HOO WE'LL HAVE IT IN A FEW DAYS!!!
I got an email from my family member this morning about the ipod fiasco. (scroll down to read ipod post if you don’t know what I’m talking about)
Anywho, the email said that Mr. Fraud Fighter called him yesterday and that Mr. Fraud Fighter said that I should place my order, AGAIN and he will "personally see to it" that it is upgraded to 2nd day air. (I am waiting for details on the conversation went cause I am dying to know what he said happened.)
Okay you say, great, at least he called back and offered to ship 2nd day air. I guess you'd be right.
BUT....Our friend is leaving Sunday AM for Cairo.
This has to ship from CA to NY. Ok so its Thursday, i order today, it SHOULD get to NY by Saturday but I am just scared it will not get there in time. (Then my ipod sits there for a month, yeah right its stolen for sure cause USPS ain’t takin it back to their station are they? Even if they do it sits in the Post Office and not here with me. Then there is the issue of getting to Cairo. FEDEX is ONLY option as mail is non-existent here and then CUSTOMS, yes they will custom to death anything you send here even gifts and personal items- CRAZY!)
Another thing too, since Mr. Fraud Fighter is so good and prompt in returning voicemails (not mine though) I am just not sure he will ‘see to it” in a timely fashion.
There is no where to put a note or special instructions when you order, so will Mr. Fraud Fighter just be sitting in office monitoring the websites orders for today and then see mine and jump right to it? Not thinking so.***
So here's what I think I will do. I found an Apple Store where my family member lives, I will ask them to buy today and overnight to friend in NY. Why didn't I just think of this before? This is the best thing to do I think, don’t you?
*** I am not unappreciative believe me. I just wish I could talk to Mr. Fraud Fighter myself to see how this went wrong. In all honestly, I do not have confidence in this online retailer now. I Googled customer service issues with them and man do they have some complaints!!!

I just read an interesting article 'Fertility coaching': can it help women conceive?.
My third and fifth IVf cycles were the toughest ones. I don't know if I would have taken advantage of a fertility coach had one been available to me, actually you know what, I think I would have as I would try anything that could improve my chances of getting pregnant.
When we start down this ART journey at first we are so hopeful and optimistic and just know its going to work. After a few tries and still no pregnancy it tends to get harder. You emotions are so raw and sometimes you feel like giving up. I haven't given up yet, I have just put my emotions into mental storage for the time being.
Hey do you live in Illinois?
Do you live withn a 24 mile radius of the city of Morris?
If so, you can apply for an IVF Grant with Angels of Hope, Inc.
I read an article about this organization here. I think it is absolutley fantastic that they are doing this for their residents.
You can visit the Angels of Hope website and read about The Creating Miracles Grant . There you can download forms and read qualifications to apply for this grant.
They also have a Grant called Everlasting Footprints that provides parents with the expense of funeral and headstone fees related to the death of an infant from stillborn to the age of three.
Another great reminder that so many beautiful people exist in this world. God Bless them.
I ordered an ipod from an online retailer. You know I am physically in Cairo, but can shop with my US credit cards anywhere I want and have many times. The bill gets paid each month and all is good.
Our friend is coming to Egypt this weekend and like so many times, when we have friends or family travelling here we have them bring things from home.
Sooooo as we are probably one of the few folks who don't yet have an ipod, and we could so use one, I thought this would be a great chance to get one. Yes they sell ipods here, but I am always leery of buying anything electronic from here and get it all from USA, don't ask me why, I just do.
Let me backtrack a bit..... I initially ordered the first ipod from a certain online retailer. I requested they ship to an address other than my billing address, our friend who is coming here. They questioned this and after my explanation they asked me to contact my credit card company and have them add our friend's address as an alternate shipping address on our account and then they could process the order. After i told them it was done to go ahead and check my with card company they said they could not process. Screw em I said and went to the next online retailer.
My order with the second online retailer resulted in a cancellation. According to their website my order was "cancelled by the customer". So naturally I emailed saying I, the customer, did not cancel the order what is going on? They said I need to call Credit Card Processing.
So i opened Skype, cause I am NOT paying to call these b.a.s.t.a.r.d.s. When i got Ms. Cheerful she told me "oh, sorry for the inconvenience but you need to call our Fraud department at 1-800..."
Fraud department?? WTF?
I called. Got voicemail left a message and my cell number here in Cairo. No call back.
I forwarded the email to a family member, as their address is my billing address and THEY WERE PISSED! They called the Fraud dept too and left a voicemail. (they think its discrimination, mainly my being in Egypt and shipping to another address other than billing). I doubt its discrimination but they could have done a little more checking to verify that indeed this is a legitimate order.
You know what I totally respect security and expect and appreciate it, but in this case, ONE $200+ ipod, both my billing and shipping addresses are listed with my credit card company, i emailed fraud dept, i left a voicemail, would a criminal go through all this ???
Have not heard from them, no ipod from USA for us now.
Again, let me reiterate I know there is so much fraud online and respect companies decisions and procedures to ensure safety, but really in this instance they could have verified me and at least called me back!
I soooo want to name this company. But you know what I won't, not yet. I will file a complaint with BBB in their state and also with whatever other organizations will listen.
What do you think, haven't they handled this WRONG????

Isn't this great, we can all stop what we're doing and wait to get pregnant until we're "ready" boy do I feel better now, don't you?
Seriously though , it is a good scientific discovery for the lucky ones who think they CAN wait.

Wow, this is AWESOME!!! Article from BBC and a short video here.
A man who went on a TV game show to win cash to help him and his wife continue IVF treatment for a baby has been offered £9,000 by a mystery viewer.
Steve Davies, from Bolton, appeared on the Channel 4 TV show Deal Or No Deal to try to win £5,000 to pay for the process but only scooped £3,000.
He and his wife, Lynette, thought their hopes were dashed but a viewer called the show and offered to help.
Now the couple, who have tried IVF four times, can pay for two more attempts.
'Absolutely gob smacked' Mr Davies, 38, said: "We've had four attempts in total which haven't worked. Eventually we decided to spend what we had left on getting married and then save for another treatment.
"I went on the show and although I only won £3,000 we just thought 'well, we'll have to find another £2,000 from somewhere'.
"A few days after it had aired we got a call from the producers saying they had some fantastic news for us."
The couple, who live in Westhoughton and who run a tool hire business, married last year.
Although the donor wishes to remain anonymous, the couple plan to send a letter to show their appreciation.
Mrs Davies, 29, said: "I was absolutely gob smacked. I was so emotional, I couldn't believe a stranger would do that for us.
"If everything goes to plan and we have a boy we'll probably call him Noel."
Mr Davies added that he would not know what to say to the mystery benefactor.
"Thank you is not enough," he said.
"It restores your faith in humankind. All the bad news you read about and then something like this happens."
A spokesman for Endemol, which makes Deal Or No Deal, said: "We think it's amazing that a viewer has donated such an amount.
"This doesn't happen very often but clearly this case has touched somebody's heart."

Today I bought a replacement for my cotton yarn mop. Yes we have Swiffer and other type mops here in Egypt, and I have those too, but I use this as I just LOVE how cleans it my stairs so easily.
Check out the bag it came in. Who told em I was a gangsta now? And is it REALLY "the best clean too" ? LOL!
(*** f.y.i.*** in the Arabic language there is no "P" but rather a "B" so you see sooooo many misspellings when it comes to the English P).
As I was cracking up in the store aisle, i was thinking how MANY times I have seen crazy verbiage and spellings here.
Here a few examples of things I have on hand, in my house now, check it out....
Okay this is a menu for a BBQ place here, you get a free BRIDE with your grilled order!
Sweet... why couldn't have been a free BABY!
(Its suppose to say BREAD obviously) The craziest thing is this is the third "edition" of their menu and the spelling has never been corrected, think I should tell em...nah too funny leave it!
Okay now these two below are from a brand of rice I always buy called Doha Rice.
In the instructions they tell you how to cook the rice, ok, we have that on packages in the States, no biggie, but look what they say after "2 spoons of oil or butter AS WISHING". Meaning according to your taste I assume. Love it!
Now this one below, from same bag if rice, has a recipe for stuffed vegetables...look at the 4th ingredient, "2 packs of spiders".
SPIDERS????? I still haven't figured this one out, but I assume MAYBE they meant spices, but what kind?
It's 1:07Am here, i'm off to bed, but can I get a holla?
My trusty little sitemeter says 6,002 hits as of today....wooo hooooooo!!!!!
I luv you guys! (damn, wish I was generating some $$ for hits, oh well, really, I mean REALLY you're comments are enough for me!)

My next favorite and one I am most proud of is our grapevine. I have posted pics before here, but look at it now...
Its really growing good and there are about 5 clusters of grapes that should be ready in a month or two. Its the first year for it, so next year will be even more.
What you can't see is how we have it "crawling" to the top of a terrace we have ... the idea is to cover the terrace top with the grapevine. Create an umbrella if you will.
Bogainvillas, what can I say...we LOVE em!!! Check out my two favorites, we have seven total, but these two are my favorite!!!

As i was reading Your Kiss is on my List... Your Kiss I Can't Resist I found
Coming2Terms, an AWESOME blog.
What an amazing lady! She was featured in an article "Facing life without children when it isn't by choice" in the NY Times. So go visit her blog. It seems so many of you have and do, I can't believe I just found her!
Her article sums up what so many of us are going through and have experienced. Hopefully we will not have to stop trying; but if we do, we can find comfort in her writings.
Take a deep breath and read some of the comments about the article, they will blow your mind!
In our community of infertility there is always talk about what those who don't struggle with this demon say to those of us who do. I fortunately, have not had to deal with any direct negative comments from anyone. But my God after reading some of the ignorant, insensitive comments I can't imagine ever meeting, let alone talking to anyone like that!
If you haven't experienced it, don't say anything, not a word! What happen to empathy and kindness? Do they not exisit anymore in that great country of ours? It seems not.
Anyway thanks to Pamela for sharing our struggle with the world.

He had to have been mentally disturbed or high as hell. Not a scene that is common anywhere, but especially not here in Egypt!

I've been tagged by Fiddle1 at It's Stork Season...And I've Bagged My Limit. Thanks girl!
So here it goes.....
1. What was I doing ten years ago? Well 10 years ago we started trying to conceive a baby. We had been married almost two years at that time and decided to wait two years after being married to have kids. Little did we know we'd still be waiting...
I still remember the day, January 1st, 1998. I even wrote it in my journal, (which I have since destroyed, I know, I know, I should have kept it, oh well).
It was my first trip ever to Egypt, and when we got here, DH was like are you ready to have kids, I was like YEAH! The entry went something like this "Nine months from today we will be parents, We have finally decided to have kids. I am so excited and know that in 9 months God will help us to be the best parents..."
2. 5 things on my to do list today: Dust, find something to cook for dinner, blog, check email, try to stay cool... I know BIG fun here!
3. Snacks I enjoy: Nacho Cheese Doritos shaken in bag with Frank's Red Hot Sauce, pretzels, carrots, all kinds of crackers, this cool Chinese rice cracker mix I found here in Cairo, microwave popcorn, potato chips and chip dip from grocery stores in NY, sunflower seeds, really anything salty, not too big on sweets for snacks.
4. Things I would do if I were a billionaire: Send my mother and her husband to Tahiti, Pay off all my mother and my fathers debts, travel to a different country every other month, donate money to advancing infertility research, pay monthly for life to a number of poor childrens families, sorry but yes- shop my ass off, finish decorating our house.
5. Places I have lived: East Coast USA, West Coast USA and Egypt.
6. People I want to know more about: All of you! So if you're game, leave a comment here and tell us you answered on your own blog and we will come check it out!

I NEVER thought in a million years that
1. i would have a pet
2. call it my child
3. enjoy it so much!!!
So here's our girl Flora yesterday. It was SO DAMN HOT, i think almost 110! She was lazy and hot and it was too cute! We just love her to death! She is our daughter for now.
Its amazing how these little guys can really bring you joy when you are feeling down.
Its cool, every night before bed, we go outside and play with her ...we look out the staircase windows every now and then to see if we can see her. We are so happy she came to us.

Soooo its day 2 for AF and thank God she's here! She has sealed the deal for me with IVF numero cinco! The final slap in the face, if you will, but you know it feels good!
I have decided, again, to put this "one" behind me. (LOL...Sorry I am laughing as I type this... it just seems to get old doesnt it?) Every few months I am typing this same type of post. No more I tell you! (yeah right) Give me a few months and come back to read about round 6!!!
But seriously we are okay. It hurt again, but as I always say, it wasn't meant for us to be parents yet. For whatever reason, it just was not our time, now.
So today i was counting, AF stays around waaay too long each month, 8 days for me , I know. But anyway this month is our 12 year anniversary and of course I think we will travel to our favorite destination... DAHAB! AF will be gone by then, and the Red Sea awaits me!
I am a fish, been swimming since age 2 (mom threw my sister and I into the pool with one of those strap on styrofoam bubble floats, and no i don't think they are around anymore, remember I am 30 something) and that was all she wrote. Since then I LOVE the water and swim anytime I can! And what could be better than swimming in the Red Sea, in June, one of the hottest months here in Egypt, nothing at all.
But in the midst of this failure I completely forgot to blog about the accident. The day before my final and third beta, a huge bus hit my husband. Smashed him into the curb, he is fine, thank God, but our car...well thats another story.
Gone are the days of police reports and insurance claims, here neither exist. If you get hit here, you get our of your car, argue a bit, get tired, tell the ahole who hit you to leave before you....
and the damage comes out of your pocket, love it!
We were suppose to hear something yesterday about our car, no call. So maybe today or tomorrow, or maybe not ever. Here time is one of those things that is not important. Frustrating, but you sort of get used to it. Well we can't actually and it drives us crazy!
So yet another expense we could have done without, but thank God DH was not hurt, thats all that matters.
Its gonna be a scorcher today, 109 my igoogle forcasts for Cairo, so indoors all day and we'll see what the evening brings.

White, sticky and peel you I do...
How i thought you'd be gone for awhile
You know I can't say I'm glad you're here, but hey thats life.
Glad I had two of you, have to go and get more
Its so damn hot out and I will not drive to the store.
I will wait till sunset to go get you, and hope you are there
Always sweet Always so nice of you to care.
So as you all know now, another round bit the dust.
As i said before, we didn’t tell anyone, other than the internet of course, so there was no one to tell of this failure. Its better this way, especially for our families, so they don’t feel bad for us, yet again, you know?
Anywaaaay...... we will try ivf AGAIN, I am sure. But my body is definitely gracious for the break from daily injections and excess hormones. Still haven't got my period, but I know its coming isn't it?
Sunset over the Lagoon in Dahab. If you didn't know, DAHAB is our FAVORITE place in all the world.
Oh, you'll read about it, cause I will blog about it no doubt! (and have before, try a search)
We are fine. So...
I will resume my blogging, about my fabulous life here in this cosmopolitan, crowded, insane city I find myself in.
Stay tuned, I promise to make this blog pOp again, its time.

My third and final beta dropped to 34 yesterday. So it seems this is or was a chemical pregnancy. Called doctor, said stop progesterone and all medications, duh, thanks.
You know, I remember reading on some blogs, under the treatments people have went through thus far TTC, many listed chemical pregnancy, which I actually had to Google as I didn't know what it meant.
I have no bleeding yet, so i will just get my period sometime soon then? I asked doctor if I needed any surgery to remove anything, he said no, that everything will go out naturally in a menstrual cycle. So now I await AF...
Thats it for now- will try to forget this, yet another failed IVF round for us.
I feel sad, but know for whatever reason, it is not meant for us to have a baby yet....
Tuesday, June 3, 2008
My second beta came in at 42. LOWER than the first at 61.2.
I called my doctor, will go see him tonight. I HOPE all is good, maybe this lab, a different one than the first is wrong, yeah right.
Anyway, I am trying not to get too bummed yet, I will wait and see what if anything ultrasound shows us.
Will post later tonight.
Sunday, June 1, 2008
My first beta HCG came back at 61.2 mIU/ml.
My doctor said to test again in 48 hours to be sure that the numbers are increasing, God Willing they will.
I am thinking to wait another day, making it 72 hours from this first beta, is that smart or not? Should I consult my doctor or just do it. Everything i read online says numbers should at least double in 48-72 hours. So maybe 48 hours is ok?
Man I have been feeling so, so sleepy and been trying to rest and take it easy. I wonder if its psychological as its so early on for me yet.
I'm off to bed now, sweet dreams and be back soon.
